Plot: When a team of explorers ventures into the catacombs that lie beneath the streets of Paris, they uncover the dark secret that lies within this city of the dead.
Cast: Peredita Weeks, Ben Feldman, Edwin Hodge
Review: Get ready to have your minds blown!
I watched this movie not expecting anything big because I wasn't really impressed by the 2007 film Catacombs since it has the same concept and shooting place. But boy was I impressed. You know you're enjoying a movie when you and your friend is trying to figure out what's going to happen next. It's a thrilling adventure with a philosophical and symbolic interest but in a claustrophobic way. The terror comes from the setting itself. The portrayal of hell in this movie is very creepy!! Damn. It's like Blair Witch meets Tomb Raider meets National Treasure kind of movie. It's weird, interesting and cool. The director used the shaky-cam formula which can be annoying but for me it worked. I appreciate the movie trying to be original. The end though is kind of so-so.
Now for the characters, well they all did a great job looking scared and puzzled but I just don't like their back stories especially when they entered the gates of hell and they reminisce what happened in their past. Not very well-written. You'll be amazed though with the main girl Scarlett (Weeks) with her passion for philosophy and history. She really knows her stuff.
I know not everyone loved this movie but I did. Go watch it yourself and decide.
