Plot: A young married couple's lives are thrown into a harrowing tailspin when an acquaintance from the husband's past brings mysterious gifts and a horrifying secret to light after more than 20 years.
Cast: Joel Edgerton, Rebecca Hall, Jason Bateman
Review: The Gift is Joel Edgerton's masterpiece. It's his directorial debut so props to him. Joel plays the creepy stalker guy. Jason Bateman plays an uptight husband and Rebecca Hall as the innocent wife. This is Jason's best acting to date. You won't see his usual comic antics, but you will see the emotional side of him. Rebecca did pretty great. A lot of blank emotions which plays the character nicely. Joel's looks fit perfectly with his character. But, there is not one character I liked. Sometimes when you watch a film, you ignore the characters and focus more on the story. That's what happened. I liked the theme more than the characters.
The movie is intense. You suddenly see a weird guy from your past then all of a sudden, he's all up in your business. That is weird and scary, so it's intense. The movie had a few scares that kind of goes with the background music. I don't have a problem with slow-paced movies as long there is an element of surprise to it. The Gift is an example of a slow-paced movie. It starts slow but it is intensely building up the thrill.
I don't want to spoil anything but the movie tackles an important issue. There's an element of surprise by the end of the film. But there are plot holes everywhere. There are questionable moments. Though I liked the twist.
